For polymer plates to be made from your digital files to Boxcar Press. Boxcar will make high quality negatives with up to 200dpi halftone. An example of price is $15 for an 8.5” x 11” plate. Boxcar will make plates for 52¢ a square inch up to 200 square inches and then the price goes down from there. We can make a lesser quality negative here by inkjet, but the range of gray is limited and the fineness of dpi is limited to 100dpi. Each exposure and developing time will vary and tests must be made; you will use up some materials in testing. To print negatives in the printshop’s digital lab you will pay $3.50 a running foot (x 24” wide) in one foot increments. It’s best to group images together to get the most for that money. The printshop will stock some Jet 94FL type polymer plate in the A3 size and will sell it for $20 a sheet. There may be times when we run out, so don’t wait to the last minute to buy it from us. There may be times when you might get it faster if you order it yourself from Boxcar. We only have the bases to work with the Jet 94FL so don’t buy any other type of polymer.

Don’t order cutting dies! Hopefully in the near future we will have a die jacket to make die cutting possible, but we don’t have one yet.

There are a few sources for monotype and for linotype. Monotype allows you to buy the metal type already set in the text you are using. We have paper catalogs for some of these suppliers, some have online catalogs as well. Machine composition is where you send them the page of text and they set the type for you and all you must do is lead the text. You can then send back the metal type for the scrap metal ($2/lb) Many typefaces are available in monotype and linotype.
