Available as raw material for this assignment are the letters that make up the student's own name. Blown up with the photo copier and arranged in a format of a 10inch square. This exercise is designed to train the students visual sensitivety and leads on into a self defined exercise. Composing with black and white, observations of shape, proportions and texture as well as working inside the context of a series and taking charge of ones own creative process are exercised. The desired experience is to view type purely as shape and independent from its function as a carrier of information.
