Following a semester of introduction to type the students now create their own assignments. Taking their own reigns in this early stage of the education allows the students to explore aspects of type that resonate with their individual interests. Here the teachers role is primarily guiding so the project remains both type related and also manageable for a relatively unexperienced student. The general objective must be to help the student see what they are looking at. So reduced layout compositions are just as appropriate as documentation and collecting of type.
